Welcome to our website!  There are lots of pictures and information here on alpacas, the smaller cousins of llamas.  Near Sawrey Farm Alpacas is home to "woolly" huacaya (wa-ki-ya) alpacas, known for their dense, crinkled fleece.  Our herd lives with many other alpacas at Alpacas at Windy Hill, in Somis, California. Surrounded by the beautiful mountains and orchards, it's a wonderful place to visit.  Browse through all our pages to see what alpacas are all about. (Hover your mouse over HOME button above left for ABOUT US, PRODUCTS, and SALES.) The adventure begins with an alpaca!

Sunbeam, Puff's 2011 cria
2012 is here! Time flies! It was a busy summer full of crias everywhere!  Four new gorgeous creatures joined the herd and have grown fast.  Almost everyone is weaned and ready to start their own adventures.  A new girl joined us in May, a result of the AOBA National Auction.  Chiri Bim is a beautiful 18 month old dark grey with a strong family tree in champions.  Look out for what she will do this year!

Knitting and Crocheting Classes at Alpacas at Windy Hill
We're still having too much fun knitting on the 3rd Saturday of every month, from 10 am - noon.  Starting our third year, classes are open to anyone, beginner or experienced.  We recently added crocheting classes lead by Sherri Wadman.  No matter what your skill level, we will guide you through projects and new skills.  We are planning on additional workshops that may cover triangle loom weaving, dyeing yarns, and more. Our goal is to create an alpaca blanket that will be donated or auctioned off to benefit a local needy cause.  If you are interested in joining our friendly, supportive group, contact me for details.

Chiri Bim - who could resist this face?
Morgan did well at SWRAS 2011!
Alpacas enjoy warm sunny days in the winter.  They lay on their sides in the pasture to soak up sun.  If they get too warm, you may see them run to crowd around the irrigation sprinklers!  They seem to really enjoy the cool jet spray of water.

Fleece continues to grow through the spring and next thing on the calendar (other than shows!) will be shearing.
